Footpath maintenance

We want to introduce ourselves as the new Chiltern Society sponsored footpath maintenance monitors for Shiplake! 

if you have any concerns regarding footpaths you can continue to report to the council via their website or draw it to our attention where we may be able to remedy or clarify local footpath issues.

We were out today cutting back by the river and noticed a kind person had beaten us to it! It had been very overgrown in places. Thank you, whomever you were!

I have been in recent contact with Dave Ramm who years ago was one of the key people to confirm the access status of what is now FP38 by Lashbrook Chapel.   I think he has some comments to pass on.

Welcome to the role, Sally & Keith

For some years I had this responsibility for the Chilterns Society and Ramblers so am very familiar with the Shipake FPs.

In general the FPs are in decent order with the riverside towpath regularly cut by local resident Peter Butler (Lashbrook Drive)

One regular issue concerns FP7 (towpath through the gardens of the properties on Mill Lane).  

FP7 connects with Mill Lane alongside 'Rivermead Cottage'.  A waymark disc 9authorised by OCC and accepted by the property owner0 directs the walker down the garden pathway towards the river. As you will know the towpath through the gardens is marked and emerges by the railway bridge where other waymarks show this original towpath direction. The inland FP towards Mill Lane parallel to the ralway bridge is a later option.

There is a waymark disc by the oak door at 'Rivermead Cottage' (not easily visible due to vegetation growth) but the disc on the post by Mill Lane is frequently taken down (by I suspect a local resident) in order to reduce use of the garden route.

This waymark needs to be re-instated yet again on the post so that this path is easily visible from Mill Lane.  Can you please do this and also keep an eye on how long it stays before being removed?!
