New Road - 2 x sick red horse chestnut trees in dangerous condition
Many years ago I alerted tree officers at SODC to the weakness and danger of the 2 sick red horse chestnut hybrid trees near the bottom of New Road. both suffering bleeding canker, falling branches, and one suffering with honey fungus. Their report says the trees are not dangerous but one has in fact now died and fallen, it could have killed somebody. I am chasing SODC again re the remaining poorly one, it is tall enough to fall on the Westfield Crescent bungalows if it falls.

Joe Smith attended and agreed the red chestnut outside 15 Westfield Cres is in a dangerous condition. The Council have instructed a tree surgeon to fell it. I will be very sad to see it go but the reds are weak short lived hybrids of the whites. The Council wanted to examine the fallen one but residents removed it almost immediately after it fell despite it causing only a short road diversion and failed to inform the Council what happened so the disease/risk to other trees cannot be established!

Joe Smith Senior Tree Officer is coming to assess the remaining tree tomorrow morning. A neighbour has spotted that a branch from the red chestnut tree which fell last week has caught on a tree on the opposite side of New Road and is just dangling there dangerously ready to fall.
