The future of local news.

I received this communication from a friend who works as a journalist for the BBC.

Not sure if you’re aware, but there are plans to axe the BBC Oxford tv news opt. That means all your news will come from Southampton. There will still be a couple of reporters in Oxford I think, but details are scarce.If you have a view on this and the future of local news then please do make your feelings known by emailing feedback.england@bbc.co.uk.

South Today in Oxford have been very helpful and interested in reporting on the various developments at Thames Farm. I doubt we shall get as much interest or help from journalists perhaps based in Southampton! This issue was also subject to a question in Parliament yesterday because there is a fear that spreading journalistic cover so thin may be a breach of the BBC's charter and obligations for coverage of local issues and news. I think this is true and a cause worthy of support.
