Disappointment at Retirement Homes Committee Meeting decision

I regret to inform you that yesterday's SODC Planning Committee decided to side with the SODC Planning Officer's recommendation to grant permission for the Retirement Village's Reserved Matters P21/S4192/RM focused on its design appearance, scale and landscaping. Cllr Bartholomew and I were unable get the officer's decision to grant permission overturned despite strong grounds to do so. The committee, many of whom had been on a site visit to view the location for themselves,  voted 6 to 4 to uphold the officer's recommendation. They were in part driven by a belief they would lose any appeal  because of the specificity of rulings and parameters plan made by the Inspector at the time of the original Appeal in 2019 (P18/S3210/O and APP/Q3115/W/19/3220425). Thank you to all residents who contributed time, thoughts and encouragement to fight this RM application. Shiplake PC will be reviewing the implications of this ruling and next steps.

Not sure what you mean, Louise. The building work will last for years and other developers will be closely examining possibilities given the new circumstances.
