20mph speed limit

Following my update on the 20 mph proposal referencing the current state of play and the OCC Highway Officer and Cabinet Officer reports I would be very happy to receive any feedback or comments on the article via the forum.Parish Council minutes referencing 20mph are available on this site too.

Tudor, thanks to all those who worked to get the 20mph limit - especially for Shiplake Cross and leading to the primary school.
It is good to see the signs now in place and it should make it safer for all concerned.
The challenge now is how to enforce it because people are still treating Memorial Avenue like a race track.
Station Road has speed bumps - is this the way forward for Shiplake Cross?

Thanks for both your comments, I know that residents opinions are divided on this issue.
As you are aware Robert, the parish council narrowly endorsed the introduction of the 20 mph limit on safety grounds as part of the OCC consultation process - our response is in the Officer's report.
As implementation cost is an important factor we have asked the parish finance group for their recommendation and we look like being on course to make a final decision at the 14th Sept parish meeting.

We strongly support a 20mph speed limit. With increasing congestion there are no roads in the village where speed in excess of 20mph is anything other than dangerous. This is evident to anyone walking towards the corner shop, particularly with children in tow, from whatever direction, Mill Road, Station Road or from the level crossing. The same is true for other residential areas particularly around the primary school and where roads have no pavements or street lighting.
