The 650 homes in Shiplake will increase by 200! - Thames Farm, Wyvale, Mt Ida AND a Retirement Village. Of 95 homes at Thames Farm ("2 mins by car from the station (!)" over 30 are "Affordable or for Rent" a (further 30 are 2/3 bed), add a Retirement Village. The Neighbourhood Plan (Homes) is totally sorted! (NIMBYs ??) No need to overdevelop and congest the Village's main artery Station Rd. "calm, relaxed lifestyle....rural...small English Village...quaint...a calming atmosphere" PROTECT IT!

Well I'm glad I started this thread. First may I remind everybody this is not social media when we "troll" people with a different views, this is a village and a community. I fully support the "village plan" we need more low cost housing. My main bugbear is the poor design. Lets all get together, buy a plot, build a number of innovative "starter homes" support the shop, butcher, pub and lets try to make a village. I only had 500 words so I had to curtail all the other things I wished to say.

Crying NIMBY is so uninspired and ill-considered. Having a view is fine but to knock others by throwing brickbats suggests an argument short of substance. Station Road remains one of the fastest pieces of highway in South Oxon and slowing traffic by more movements on to it at its narrowest point is not only inconsiderate to the commuters rushing to and from the station but also to the parents flying to the school bus at the Corner Shop. 5 bedrooms or 10 parking spaces - after 5 years no choice.

The business case has no bearing on the matter, apart from revealing the prejudice of the writer. I note that there is no proposal either as to what would be the right place and the right time for apartments in the village. NIMBYs win again.

Since work on the Neighbourhood Plan began, approval has unexpectedly been given for over 200 properties at Thames Farm, Wyevale, Mount Ida and the Retirement Village. The majority of these properties are smaller dwellings and apartments, so that need has been met many times over.

This scheme is not a one-off neat addressing of the Neighbourhood plan. The business case presumes a greater return from a block of flats than a large house - so flats unaffordable for young families. Maybe good for "downsizing" - like "retirement village". Houses in Station Road were for big families. This scheme drives the replacement of houses with flats and gardens with carparks. The main entrance to the village changes into a congested suburbia. Wrong plan in wrong place. Defend Village.

Encouraging smaller dwellings and apartments in order to improve the diversity of the village was - and still is - at the heart of the Shiplake Neighbourhood Plan. If this development does not win the approval of the Parish Council, how on earth do they expect to achieve this? This Parish Council needs to get its act together, and to decide exactly what it does stand for. It appears to respond far more to small noisy groups of activists than protecting the interests of the wider community.

I have been contacted by residents concerned about the adverse impact of the proposed flats and car park on the character of Station Road and possible implications for elsewhere in the village. I share these concerns and will not be supporting the proposal in my capacity as your County and District Councillor. Shiplake Parish Council has also objected to the proposal.

It's pretty ugly, but good that there will be apartments instead of another 7-bed home. I hope the PC is supporting this.
